Get to know Internist Dr. Cecilia Shim, who serves patients in Garnet Valley, Pennsylvania.

A well-versed internist, Dr. Shim is the Supervising Physician Director & Chair of the Education Council at Alegis Care. 

Having been with Alegis Care since 2011, she collaborates with Alegis Care nurse practitioners across the organization. As Chair of the Education Council, she is also responsible for coordinating and executing clinical education for all Alegis Care practitioners.

Alegis Care works with patients, doctors, health plans, and employers to provide in-home and telehealth care services for those who need it most. The skilled healthcare providers bring tremendous home health experience and are highly equipped to assist patients with the unique challenges of home healthcare.

Educated in the United States, Dr. Shim graduated with her Bachelor of Arts degree in Dramatic Literature, Theater History & the Cinema at New York University in 1998. She then went on to earn her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2006. 

Furthering her training, she performed her internship and residency in internal medicine at Mercy Suburban Hospital in 2010.

Prior to her current role, Dr. Shim performed health assessments for Alegis Care patients in Delaware. She has always had an interest in geriatric medicine and, since medical school, has been a proponent of home-based medical care as being cost-efficient, and more importantly, the best place for elderly patients to take better care of themselves.

Internal medicine is the medical specialty dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases. Physicians specializing in internal medicine are called internists. They manage and prevent common and complex diseases by providing comprehensive care and promoting overall well-being.
