Get to know Ophthalmologist, Dr. Timothy O’Boyle, who serves patients in Dalton, Georgia 

A board-certified ophthalmologist, Dr. O’Boyle practices through Professional Eye Associates in Dalton, Georgia, which he joined in 1991. With a focus on state of the art technology and outstanding patient care, he specializes in cataract surgery, LASIK, and the treatment of diabetic eye disease. Dr. O’Boyle is also affiliated with North Georgia Medical Center in Ellijay, Georgia, and Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton, Georgia.

After he graduated with his medicaid degree from Baylor College of Medicine in 1981, Dr. O’Boyle served his internship at the Baylor Affiliated Hospitals (1982 – 1983) and his residency in ophthalmology at the Louisiana State University Eye Center (1983 – 1986). He is licensed to practice in the state of Georgia and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (FAAO).

Subsequent to his training, Dr. O’Boyle acquired board certification in ophthalmology from the American Board of Ophthalmology. The American Board of Ophthalmology is an independent, non-profit organization responsible for certifying ophthalmologists in the United States of America. Founded in 1916, the ABO was the first American Board established to certify medical specialists.

Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine and surgery that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the eye. An ophthalmologist is a physician who specializes in ophthalmology. 

Prior to joining Professional Eye Associates in 1991, Dr. O’Boyle served as the Chief of Ophthalmology at the Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Augusta, Georgia. He is an active member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and the Georgia Medical Society. Moreover, he is involved with the Humane Society of Northwest Georgia and the Boy Scouts of America.
