In the early days of her academic career, Dr. Krishnaprasad-Dalal earned her medical degree from B.J. Medical College in India in1970. Upon relocating to the United States, she served her internship at McLaren General Hospital in 1975 and her residency in anesthesiology at DMC Sinai Grace Hospital in 1977. This was followed by a fellowship in critical care medicine at the University of Maryland Medical Systems in 1979.
With over five decades of experience in her field, she is board-certified in anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA), whose mission is to advance the highest standards of the practice of anesthesiology. As the certifying body for anesthesiologists since 1938, the ABA is committed to partnering with physicians to advance lifelong learning and exceptional patient care.
Anesthesiology is the medical specialty concerned with the total perioperative care of patients before, during, and after surgery. It encompasses anesthesia, intensive care medicine, critical emergency medicine, and pain medicine. Anesthesiologists have the primary responsibility of monitoring the patient’s vital signs during surgery.
