Dr. Richard Ries is a clinical psychologist practicing in Honolulu, HI. Dr. Ries specializes in the treatment of trauma, end-of-life care, and resiliency for children, families and couples. Dr. Ries has served as the chairperson of the Hawai'i State Council on Mental Health, as the Behavioral Health Subject Matter Expert on the Mayor's COVID-19 Public Health and Medical Advisory Group, and as Deputy Chief of Psychology Research at Tripler Army Medical Center. He also worked as the Resiliency Subject Matter Expert for the Pacific region (Hawai'i, Japan and South Korea) with special emphasis on recovery after the 2011 earthquake, tsunami and nuclear spill in Fukushima. He has given consultation and workshops to hospital systems for regulating difficult patient behaviors and has given a series of classes on dream analysis. As a psychologist, Dr. Ries evaluates and treats patients through a variety of methods, most typically being psychotherapy or talk therapy. He is certified in all the current gold standard treatments for posttraumatic stress disorder and often utilizes experiential and emotion-focused approaches. Patients often visit Dr. Ries because they have been experiencing depression, anxiety, difficulties in their current phase of life, or trouble with children and family.
