Get to know General, Bariatric and Robotic Surgeon, Dr. Keneth Hall, who serves the New York State at Rome Memorial Hospital. Dr. Hall began his studies with a bachelor’s degree in biology at York College, City University of New York, and graduated with honors. He continued his education by earning an M.D. at Howard University College of Medicine, and completed his residency at Stony Brook University Medical Center in 2011. Dr. Hall then did a one year fellowship/ specialization in Minimally Invasive & Bariatric surgery with an emphasis in Robotics at NYU Winthrop Hospital where he stayed on staff until 2018 when he resigned to start his own private practice. Now working primarily in the upstate area of Rome NY area, Dr. Hall performs various general and bariatric surgical procedures, including gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, revisional bariatric procedures as well as all types of abdominal hernias and surgeries on the GI tract. Additionally he does provide care in all aspects of acute care surgery as well as some trauma surgery. Beyond his position at Winthrop University Hospital, Hall is a clinical instructor of surgery at the School of Medicine at State University of New York, Stony Brook. As a member of the York College Alumni Association, and the Police Surgeon’s Association, Dr. Hall is able to stay up-to-date on developments in his field. In 2016, Dr. Hall was honored as Network Journal’s 40 Under-Forty, which means that his professional accomplishments have significantly impacted the medical industry and have made an important contribution to his community. Weight loss surgery includes a variety of procedures performed on people who have obesity. Weight loss is achieved by reducing the size of the stomach with a gastric band or through removal of a portion of the stomach known as sleeve gastrectomy or biliopancreatic diversion or by resecting and re-routing the small intestine to a small stomach pouch, known as gastric bypass surgery. Long-term studies show the procedures cause significant long-term loss of weight, recovery from diabetes, improvement in cardiovascular risk factors, and a mortality reduction from 40% to 23%. Dr. Hall has contributed greatly to the field of medicine through publications in journals like the Journal of Surgery and advancements in medical technology.
