  • How long should your teeth hurt after a filling?

I hope the pain has diminished or lessened. It is not unusual for a tooth to have sensitivity, and is not necessarily an indication that a root canal (Endodontic) treatment is needed. Taking Advil is usually a first recommendation. Up to a week or two of discomfort frequently can still end up with all discomfort going away and the tooth being OK. Dr. Trachtenberg READ MORE

  • Why is my tooth discolored after treatment?

A frequent cause of this is that, in order to do a root canal treatment, the root system has to be accessed through the top or inner aspect of the tooth. This process opens the internal tissue of the tooth to air, which can then "oxidize" and thereby darken it. In most cases, a tooth that has had root canal treatment will be crowned, and that covers over any discoloration and strengthens the remaining tooth structure. READ MORE

  • What happens if I don't go for my root canal?

There is no real prophetic answer. The issues at hand are usually potential for discomfort, pain, and/or an abscess, which is an acute infection. Some infections can be serious. It's best to speak to your dentist and express your thoughts about delaying the treatment because of your trip. Good luck and enjoy the trip, Dr. Trachtenberg READ MORE
