Focused on building relationships through excellence in dentistry, Dr. Mazzei believes that excellent oral health begins with education and prevention. Her professional philosophy is aligned with Functional Medicine, which determines how and why illness occurs and restores health by addressing the root causes of disease for each individual. She strives to redefine the boundaries of oral systemic health and has made it her mission to enlighten patients on how they can take greater control over their dental health, which then supports optimal systemic health.
While growing up in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, Dr. Mazzei aspired to someday help people, and was intrigued by a dental assisting program offered at her high school. Her studies in psychology at the University of Michigan laid the foundation of her knowledge base concerning human nature and how they think. She earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Northwestern University Dental School in 1987. Later, she completed a specialty certification in prosthodontics.
Upon the completion of her studies, Dr. Mazzei joined the faculty of Northwestern University Dental School as a full-time Clinical Assistant Professor. Her tenure continued for twelve years, where she enjoyed educating future dentists in all facets of their four-year education.
After these years of hard work and dedication, she was granted an Assistant Professor Emeritus at Northwestern University.
An avid lifelong learner, Dr. Mazzei is constantly reading, attending webinars, continuing her education, and remaining current with the latest advancements in oral health and dentistry. She is a Certified Functional Medicine Health Coach, a Charter Fellow in the American Academy of Oral Systemic Health, and has completed the Preceptorship Program of the Bale and Doneen Method.
