Get to know Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgeon Dr. Manish M. Thusay, who serves patients in Oregon, Ohio. 

Dr. Thusay is a laparoscopic and robotic surgeon serving Oregon and the surrounding communities. He practices with the Toledo Clinic, a unique practice with state-of-the-art healthcare, 62 locations, that retains a good old-fashioned community doctor feel. They have approximately 265 physicians and associated healthcare professionals in more than 40 different specialties. 

Furthermore, he is affiliated with the Bay Park Community Hospital, Flower Hospital, St. Anne’s Mercy Hospital, St. Charles Mercy Hospital, and St. Luke’s Hospital. He is a professional member of the Detroit Surgical Association American College of Surgeons and has been inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. 

In regards to his education, Dr. Thusay earned his Medical Degree from BJ Medical College. He went on to complete an internship at Sasson General Hospital, a residency at KEM Hospital and St. John’s Hospital and Medical Center, and a fellowship at St. John’s Hospital and Medical Center.

To stay up to date in his field, Dr. Thusay is board certified in surgery by the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, nonprofit organization founded in 1937 to provide board certification to individuals who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge in the field of surgery. 

Laparoscopic surgery allows a surgeon to perform complex procedures within the abdomen without having to place his hands directly into the body cavity. This is achieved by using miniaturized instruments placed through portals, called trocars, inserted through keyhole size incisions made in the abdomen.  The abdominal cavity is inflated with carbon dioxide gas to provide a working space for the surgeon to operate in. Visualization of the internal anatomy is provided by a high definition, digital camera attached to a telescope lens inserted through one of the trocar sites. As the incision size tends to be smaller than for open surgery, postoperative pain is reduced in addition to blood loss and transfusions.
