Another cold and rainy day, I could hardly move this morning. Everything ached, my head was spinning 'but I did get up'. If it wasn't for the home support staff, that comes most mornings at 7 am, Maybe I'd spend the day in bed. I also have many other issues that help to make my body, feel crapy. Discuss the support system you have to help face the challenges of Fibromyalgia

I really only have 'home care', and my sister and a few close friends. It's so hard to keep explaining to others how I feel in the run of a day because they could care less. Having this condition we are considered odd by many. Fibromyalgia isn't talked about like the common cold or the flu. It's pretty much hidden. If it isn't discovered, you may never hear about it. I never thought I would end up with it, but it can happen to anyone, male or female.

Who are the key members of your support team?

I've been with Northwood Homecare for about 6 years. They come in each weekday at 7 am and help me to shower and with breakfast. (Remember, I am now handicapped because of a failed operation). Having the nurses helps me to get started in the am. The rest of the time it's up to me. My sister drops in once in a while; she has grandchildren and works as well.

Do you believe you receive adequate support?

No, not really, with depression and anxiety, and so many people don't understand what's happening daily in our lives. Not to mention the pain that goes with this.

What do you wish family and friends would better understand about fibromyalgia?

I wish that they would take the time to understand how I feel, instead of putting me off and saying 'Its all in my head!'
