More About Me
How has life changed since your diagnosis?
I only go out occasionally to visit relatives in England and see the nurse for my injections every 12 weeks. I live in a flat 62 steps from the pavement and I feel trapped as I get breathless very quickly. I am 56 years of age and around 17 stone. My partner cares for me. He is English and I am Scottish. He is usually the only person I see in person apart from Christmas time when we visit his relatives in Kent and Cornwall. We have had the occasional holiday after inhering some money but we are back to square one now, living on state benefits. He is epileptic but it is controlled by drugs. I have pernicious anemia, asthma, rheumatoid arthritis and high blood pressure. I am obese and depressed and we have communication problem due to accents and my partner's learning difficulties. I use the internet to chat to others and play games. We both bury our heads in the sand but I realise I need to myself first as others don't seem to care, no even my own family. Our parents are all dead but I have 2 brothers about 20-25 miles away who I seldom see and my partner has a sister in Yorkshire we seldom see. We live in Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland
What are you most passionate about?
I am most passionate about watching TV, doing crossword and other puzzles, writing poetry and animals, especially cats and dogs. I spent most of my life on my laptop watching TV. I need to get out a lot more but find it very difficult as I have mobility problems and asthma.
What do you hope readers can learn from your health journey?
Don't let things get to you. Keep moving as long as is possible and seek the help you need. There is plenty of opportunities and help for disabled people if you know where to look. Don't let the b****** grind you down.
