Wife of Eagles Co-Founder Glenn Frey Sues Hospital for Negligence

Glenn Frey was the lead singer and co-founder of the legendary rock band ‘The Eagles’. All around the globe, fans were shocked and saddened to hear about Frey’s passing in January of 2016. Now, his widow, Cindy Frey, is saying that his passing never should have happened in the first place.

Cindy has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Mount Sinai Hospital and gastroenterologist, Steven Itzkowitz. The lawsuit is accusing the hospital and physician for negligence that left the musician “sick, sore, lame and disabled”, causing him pain and suffering up until the time of his death.

Frey was under the care of Dr. Itzkowitz from October 2015 until November 2015. According to Cindy, Mount Sinai Hospital and Dr. Itzkowitz failed to properly treat her late husband’s ulcerative colitis. Moreover, they failed to diagnose and treat his infections and respiratory issues, as well as to advise on the risks and side effects associated with the treatment.

Frey's death

Frey passed away due to complications from acute ulcerative colitis, rheumatoid arthritis, and pneumonia. Following his death, manager of ‘The Eagles’, Irving Azoff, indicated that Frey’s ailments were partly brought on by the medication he was taking for his RA. “The colitis and pneumonia were side effects from all the meds. He died from complications of ulcer and colitis after being treated with drugs for his rheumatoid arthritis which he had for over 15 years,” he said.
The lawsuit is seeking unspecified damages and it was filed shortly before the expiration of New York’s two-year statute of limitations for wrongful death cases. The law states that lawyers are required to consult with doctors in medical malpractice actions before suing, in order to determine cases with merit. It permits lawsuits, such as Cindy’s, to be filed when lawyers cannot acquire such consultations. “As a result of his death, his family was deprived of his care, guidance and support, and they have suffered pecuniary damage,” reads the lawsuit.
Now, Mount Sinai Hospital and Dr. Itzkowitz are seeking to have the case dismissed, proclaiming that “the injuries of the plaintiff were caused in whole or in part by the culpable conduct of the plaintiff.”
