How long should you rest after a hernia surgery?

I will have an inguinal hernia surgery. Is it a major surgery? How long should you rest after a hernia surgery?

Yes, it's a major surgery. You can't lift heavy weights or strain during bowel movement the first 3 months.
I typically recommend no strenuous activity for 2 weeks, that includes lifting no more than 20 lbs. Weeks 2-4, you can gradually begin to increase your activity. No restrictions after 4 weeks.

During the recovery phase, it is important to get up and walk around. You can do light activities that do not cause pain. You do not want to remain immobile while you are recovering.
