There iis no pain during colonoscopy
The worst part about a colonoscopy is the prep you have to take the night before. The procedure itself is painless, as you were almost always under sedation. You may have some crampy gas pains for a day or two afterwards that is minimal.
The scope used for colonoscopy- the colonoscope, is thin and flexible. The discomfort felt duringcolonoscopy is usually from gas distention of the colon used to visualize the colon walls. Sedation is usually given to decrease or eliminate this discomfort.
Nearly all colonoscopies are done using IV sedation so it should not be painful unless you receive midazolam and you are resistant to it (e.g. due to alcohol use or high anxiety). If you receive propofol for sedation then you will not feel anything.
You are asleep, so no pain normally.
