Internist Questions Internal Medicine

Can an internist also specialise in other medical areas, such as endocrinology or nephrology?

Are there any internists that have a specific specialization? I always thought their range of practice was pretty general.

There are general internists and there are specialized internists - endocrinology, nephrology, pulmonology, cardiology, rheumatology are all specialties of internal medicine. To be a specialist in one of these fields, a doctor must first train as a general internist, then go on for specialty training. Most specialists today do not maintain their certifications to practice general medicine, although they do have that option if they choose to.
Yes, for being an endocrinologist you have to do internal medicine first
