Gastroenterologist Questions Bariatric Surgery

How does the bariatric surgery work?

My height is 5’4 and my weight is 246lbs. I am considering a bariatric surgery as nothing else seems to work to get my weight back on track. How does this surgery work and is it safe?

It works fairly well but best to discuss this with a bariatric surgeon rather than a GI specialist.
It works by either constricting the stomach so that you feel full with less calories or by short circuiting so that you get less absorbtion of calories depending on the procedure.
Bariatric surgery aims at reducing the size of the stomach, so food intake is reduced drastically. It also bypasses a part of the intestines so the digestion and absorption of food is drastically reduced. Both lead to weight loss, but you must be aware of the possible side effects.
