Why does my back crack so much during an adjustment?
Cavitation is the physiological phenomenon when nitrogen and carbon dioxide gases are released if 10% of the joint vacuum is disrupted (i.e. cracking your nuckles) similar to the sound of cracking open a can of soda as the vacuum is opened and the carbon dioxide is released. READ MORE
Back exercises after adjustments?
Great question! There is no way to know which exercises are appropriate for you without seeing the results of your examination and X-rays. I don't expect miracles after a single treatment, it's more like a bandaid, but we do accept the miracles if they do happen. Do not vacuum, sweep or pick up anything over 10 lbs and do not soak in a bathrub or use a heating pad until you see your Chiropractor for your next treatment. It can be normal for you to feel some soreness or stiffness after an adjustment if your body is not used to it. It is very similar to exercising for the first time in a couple weeks - you can be stiff and sore the next day, not because the exercise was bad for you, but because your body was not used to it. The acclimation period is normally less than two weeks and you should start to notice some positive results such as a reduction in your symptoms. Have as good a day as you can and schedule your next adjustment with your Chiropractor. READ MORE
Should I see a chiro after a car accident?
No. Although problems are best addressed immediately so they don't progressively get worse, it is usually not too late. Make sure you find a Doctor of Chiropractic who will do a thorough examination and x-ray to properly diagnose the cause of the neck and upper back pain. Only then is an individual and accurate treatment plan devised. You should also be able to open up a Personal Injury (PI) case so that the car insurance companies help to pay for the cost of care. I had back surgery. Should I see a chiropractor or avoid it?
In most cases it is helpful although the Doctor of Chiropractic should do a thorough examination and x-ray in my experience. Once in awhile there is a surgery or area of instability that should not be treated by a chiropractor (example: metal implants like plates or screws). Usually the other areas need to be structurally balanced and aligned due to compensating for the immobility of the surgical area. READ MORE
Can a chiropractor relieve muscle pain?
Yes. Bodies that are out of balance and alignment can create imbalances in muscle and ligament tension. People try to ice it, heat it, massage it, but if they don't correct the structural imbalance, the muscle imbalances tend to return. As a Chiropractor, my job is to help restore as much structural balance and strength as possible which subsequently relieves muscle pain in the majority of cases, especially physical injuries.
