A board-certified and fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Banaszek is an attending physician at Newton Wellesley Orthopedic Associates, with offices in Newton, Wellesley, and Needham, Massachusetts. He also serves as faculty at the Tufts University School of Medicine, where he is involved in the teaching of orthopedic residents.
Newton Wellesley Orthopedic Associates is a multi-specialty group of orthopedic surgeons. Since 1970, they have provided care to their patients for a comprehensive range of orthopedic problems. Their practice focuses on the evaluation and treatment of disorders of the bones, joints, muscles, tendons, and nerves in children and adults. All of their physicians are board-certified in orthopedic surgery and hold advanced certification in various sub-specialties.
Born and raised in Newton, Massachusetts, Dr. Banaszek attended Newton North High School, and received his Bachelor of Science degree, as well as his medical degree and Surgical Master’s degree from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. He completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Queen’s University in Kingston, Canada, where he served as Chief Resident and Team Physician for the Varsity Football and Rugby teams.
Wanting to further his education, he completed his fellowship in both orthopedic trauma and combined neurosurgical/orthopedic spine surgery at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. In addition, he completed his Master of Health Science degree in Clinical Epidemiology at the same educational venue.
Recognized as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC), the doctor is board-certified in orthopedic surgery and spine surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons.
Professionally, Dr. Banaszek is an active member of the Orthopedic Trauma Association, the North American Spine Society, and the Canadian Spine Society. His current research interests include patient safety and outcomes research, as well as the public health impact of worldwide trauma and spine care. He has extensively published in peer-reviewed journals and is the recipient of multiple clinical, teaching, and research awards.
