Keep carbs controlled, ideally complex carbs like whole grains are good, which are better than whole wheat. Also recommend balanced meals, which means half plate should be non-starchy vegetables and 1/4th should be complex carbs and 1/4th should be protein. Adequate hydration and sleep are also key for good health.

Simpler test would be a fasting blood sugar or HbA1c.
