Dr. Sabet Hashim is a board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon who treats patients at Hartford HealthCare Medical Group in Hartford, CT. Dr. Hashim also serves as chairman of cardiac surgery and co-physician in chief at the Hartford HealthCare Heart and Vascular Institute. Before becoming chairman of cardiac surgery and co-physician in chief in 2016, Dr. Hashim was the director of cardiac valve surgery for a decade at Yale New Haven Hospital. During his time there, he performed New England's first mitral valve repair in 1984. Dr. Hashim additionally performed the first heart transplant in Connecticut. He has developed one of the first mitral valve repair programs in the United States and pioneered techniques in minimally invasive aortic and mitral valve surgery. Dr. Hashim has maintained the largest mitral valve practice in Connecticut and has performed more than 2,000 mitral valve repairs and 10,000 open-heart procedures. He has been a primary investigator on several trials, including SurTAVI, COAPT and Commence. Dr. Hashim has professional affiliations with St. Vincent's Medical Center, Hartford Hospital, Hartford HealthCare Medical Group, and Integrated Care Partners.

Dr. Hashim graduated with his medical degree from St. Joseph's Jesuit University School of Medicine. He continued his education with an internship and residency in general surgery at St. Luke's Hospital. Followed by a residency in cardiothoracic surgery at Yale New Haven Hospital. Dr. Hashim’s areas of interest include aortic valve replacement, coronary artery bypass surgery, heart valve surgery, inherited cardiovascular diseases, MAZE and mini MAZE for atrial fibrillation, mini invasive aortic and mitral surgery, mitra clip for mitral regurgitation, mitral valve repair, repair of ischemic mitral regurgitation, surgery for hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy, and transcatheter mitral valve repair (TMVR). Dr. Hashim has received numerous professional honors and awards, he has a vast background in biomedical research and has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals. He is fluent in Arabic and French in addition to English. Dr. Hashim maintains professional memberships with the American College of Surgeons, the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the American Medical Association, the Yale Surgical Society, the New Haven Medical Association, the Connecticut Medical Association, and the Lebanese American University School of Medicine.
