Especially in today's age of technology where people are looking down at phones and computers so much, it's very important to keep the rest of your body healthy so it doesn't get bad like your back!

Hi there,

First off, congratulations! I'm sorry to hear your back has been bothering you, but chiropractic is fantastic for pregnant women. When your body goes through all the changes it does during pregnancy, it causes a new stress on the low back and hips in particular. Chiropractors are great at helping your body adapt to these changes and is no risk to the baby at all.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you are suffering with this. Sciatica is a diagnosis when pain shoots down the leg, yes. The nerves that cause you to feel pain, numbness, etc in the legs all come out of the low back. Depending on where you feel the pain in your leg, it changes which nerve is the one that is pinched. It could be the sciatic nerve, or it could be another. Either way, I would go see a chiropractor as we are the best equipped to treat the cause of sciatica.

Hi, sorry to hear you have a pinched nerve. I would definitely go see a chiropractor for it. When joints aren't moving like they are supposed to, your body stiffens up to protect that area; think of swelling in an ankle after you roll it. Your spine/neck is supposed to MOVE though, but sometimes it gets stuck for a number of reasons. When your joints get stiff, pressure is placed on your nerves which causes them not to function like they are supposed to leading to symptoms like pain. Chiropractors locate joints that are not moving like intended and restore normal function to them with adjustments so the nerves can work like they are supposed to.
Hope that helps!

Hello there, sorry to hear you are suffering through this. Let me preface this with I'm not in front of you examining you and these are just recommendations based on what you've typed above: I would go to get it checked out by a chiropractor as we are experts at looking into joint dysfunction. If this is indeed an issue with your hips not moving right (which I'm inclined to believe it is since sitting aggravates it) then a chiropractor is the place to go. If you there they should take x-rays to make sure if this is a issue with your hip or somewhere else. I hope this helps.

Typically, scoliosis does not correct itself. It is either caused from joint dysfunction in the spine (90+% of scoliosis) or an anatomical abnormality like a short leg or something similar (small % of the time). Chiropractors are fantastic at fixing scoliosis, but depending on your daughter's age, it affects how much we can correct it. If she's 10, we'll be able to make more progress than if she's 18, for example. I would get it evaluated by a chiropractor after your primary to get a second opinion.

I am having pain in my calf muscles. What is the treatment recommended to get relief?

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about your pain. There are a number of potential solutions, but my first recommendation would be to go and see a doctor if it is bugging you that much. I can give general pointers about relieving pain, but since I am not in front of you examining the issue, I can't promise anything.

That being said, if it feels like a cramp/tightness, an easy thing to do would be to try drinking more water and upping your potassium intake. As a chiropractor, one thing I always do with patients who have leg/knee/calf/foot pain is also look to make sure the joints in the pelvis are moving as they are supposed to; dysfunctional pelvic motion changes how all the joints below your hips function. So, I would look into going to see a chiropractor, upping your water intake, and eat/drink your favorite fruit/veggie/etc. with potassium in it.

Hope this helps!

What is myofascial pain syndrome? How is it treated?

Here is my opinion, remember I was not there for the exam nor was I there to review her history or other symptoms.

The word Myofascial can be broken down to Myo and Fascia: myo referring to muscles and fascia referring to the type of tissue connecting muscles and bones (more of less). Myofascial pain syndrome is a diagnosis referring to pain between those tissues most commonly from overuse of a muscle from repetitive activities. It is not serious as a stand alone issue, in that there are no life threatening complications from this diagnosis on its own; however, it does take some time to fix this as it is a condition that occurs over a long course of time. As far as her treatment, it really depends on the provider. Some would approach this condition with a dietetic approach to reduce general inflammation in the body; some would work on re-education of the overused muscles to reduce inflammation through improved function. Hopefully this helps!
