Identifying the pillars of “good” mental health is important to improving our mental and emotional well-being. Anyone can experience mental or emotional health problems — and over a lifetime, many of us will. When trying to improve your mental health, it may be helpful to keep these healthy behaviors in mind.

1. Track your gratitiude: Every day write down 3 things you were grateful for and 3 things you were able to accomplish.

2. Work on your relationships: Show love to someone in your life. Having close, quality, relationships are key for a happy, healthy life.

3. Take a break when you need it: When your brain and body need a break, taking a mental health day off from work or school can help you rest and recharge.

4. Improve your sleep habits: Chronically bad sleep is more than just a nuisance. It weakens the immune system, reduces memory, and attention span.

5. Acknowledge negative emotions: Negative emotions like anxiety and stress can make it harder to think or solve problems. Ground yourself in the present moment to calm down.

Speaking to a mental health specialist is another way to build upon your mental health treatment.
