A200 Maximum Strength is a drug made from Pyrethrin/pyrethrum extract and is used to terminate lice from the body, head or pubic hair.

Pyrethrin is a chemical obtained from the lice and when absorbed by the lice, it destroys their nervous system and destroys them, while not harming humans as such. Piperonyl butoxide is also used in combination with these secretions to make it even more effective.

The combination of these two chemicals is called pediculicide and is available in the form of shampoo, foam, kit, liquid and jelly.

This is a non-prescription drug and can be easily obtained through pharmacies as well as general stores.

2 What to Know Before Using

Before using A200 Maximum Strength, you must know all about the risks and complications associated with it. The decision of starting any new medication or any treatment method is done after the patient has informed the physician of any doubts in his/her mind, and has also been informed of all the details by the physician.

It is ideal that doctor and patient work as a team and the following things are considered:

  • Detailed history of a patient is extremely important prior to any medical therapy.
  • Allergies or any history of allergy to any drug, food, preservatives, dyes or animal products, history of drug usage, past medical or surgical procedure should also be kept in a record to predict any drug interaction.
  • Physical examination should be done before starting this drug so that any physiological or pathological condition with which this drug may interfere may be ruled out.
  • Age-specific assessment is much important for the safety of a patient. Geriatric studies have not been extensive to conclude the effectiveness of this combination in elderly people.

However, its use has shown that there are no different side effects in elderly people than in young adults. This drug combination also has similar side effects profile in children as that of adults.

  • Use in pregnancy, as well as breastfeeding mothers has been considered safe but its use should be restricted to as minimum as possible.
  • Drug interactions may occur when many drugs are used together. Other drugs may enhance or diminish effects of pyrethrum and piperonyl butoxide combination. A consulting doctor should be well aware of the drug history of the patient and inform the patient about any possible effect.

Drug interactions may occur as a result of using the counter drugs along with the therapy. Alcohol, tobacco, grapefruit juice and certain types of foods may also lead to increase in drug interactions.

  • Make sure you tell the doctor if there is any skin inflammation as this drug may lead to increase in its severity.

3 Proper Usage

To use A200 Maximum Strength properly, you must follow all instructions given by your doctor. The combination drug container comes with a direction leaflet or sticker. It is important for the patient to follow the instructions on the container or given by your doctor.
