AldometĀ is a drug used in the treatment of hypertension. This drug is available as a tablet containing 250 mg or 500 mg of Methyldopa.

Instructions:

Before taking this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have the following:

If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. Continue to use it as prescribed by your doctor or as stated on the package label.

Interactions:

Methyldopa may interact with medications such as:

  • Iron products such as:
    Lithium
    • Ferrous sulfate
    • or Ferrous gluconate
  • MAO inhibitors:
    Alcohol
  • Antihistamines such as:
  • Drugs for sleep or anxiety such as:
    Muscle relaxants
    • Alprazolam
    • Diazepam
    • or Zolpidem
  • Narcotic pain relievers such as:
    • Codeine
Side Effects:

There are no side effects known aside from a possible allergic reaction in people who have previous or unknown hypersensitivity to the drug.

Watch out for signs of allergic reactions such as:

  • Rash
  • Itching
  • Swelling
Warnings:

Before taking this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have the following:

  • Allergy to Methyldopa
  • Liver Disease
  • Low red blood cell count or anemia
  • Heart failure
  • Pheochromocytoma
  • Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency
  • Pregnancy or lactation
