Arava is a drug which is used for the treatment of active rheumatoid arthritis. It is used to reduce signs and symptoms, inhibit structural damage as evidenced by X-ray erosions and joint space narrowing and improve physical function. This drug contains leflunomide and can be used with other drugs for rheumatoid arthritis.

Arava is available as film coated tablets containing 10 mg, 20 mg or 100 mg of leflunomide.

Interactions

Arava may interact with medications such as:

  • Rifamycins (e.g., rifampin)
  • Drugs affecting the liver (e.g., methotrexate)
  • Cholestyramine
  • Other drugs that weaken the immune system (e.g., tacrolimus, cyclosporine)

Side Effects

There are no side effects known aside from a possible allergic reaction in people who have previous or unknown hypersensitivity to the drug.
