Bumetanide, also known and sold under the trade name of Bumex, is a product which belongs to a group of drugs known as diuretics, which are considered to work by causing your body to produce more urine.

This medication is used in order to reduce the extra fluid (edema) caused by several conditions – e.g. heart failure, liver and kidney disease.

By reducing the fluid, it helps lessen symptoms – e.g. shortness of breath and swelling in the arms, legs, and abdomen. This medication is available in the form of a tablet.

5 Potential Side Effects

Along with its expected beneficial effects, there are potential side effects that could occur. These side effects do not occur in all patients, also they could be mild or more serious.

Common side effects – dizziness and lightheadedness. These are common side effects which are not considered as serious. However, if their presence persists, or worsens, inform the doctor as soon as possible.

Serious side effects – muscle cramps, weakness, unusual tiredness, confusion, severe dizziness, fainting, drowsiness, unusual thirst/dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, fast/irregular heartbeat, and unusual decrease in the amount of urine.
