Osmitrol

Osmitrol is a drug used to promote dieresis or urination in the prevention and treatment of acute renal failure. This drug is also used to reduce intracranial (brain) pressure and mass and to reduce high intraocular (eye) pressure.

Mannitol is available as an injection solution containing 12.5 grams in 50 milliliters or containing 5 grams, 10 grams, 15 grams or 20 grams in 100 milliliters.

Interactions:

Mannitol may interact with additives in a container. Tell your doctor about drugs and supplements you may use along with Mannitol.

Side Effects:

There are no side effects known aside from a possible allergic reaction in people who have previous or unknown hypersensitivity to the drug.

Watch out for signs of allergic reactions such as:

• Rash
• Itching
• Swelling

Before taking this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have the following:

• Allergy to mannitol
• Impaired kidney function
• Dehydration
• Electrolyte imbalance
• Intracranial hypertension
• Low blood pressure
• Pregnancy or lactation
