2 What to Know Before Using

Before using Prudoxin, you must know all about the risks and complications associated with it. This decision is made by you and your doctor. Before using Prudoxin, check whether you have ever had any form of allergic reactions to any medicine or even Doxepin.

Also, confirm whether you have any form of allergies to food, dyes, or preservatives or animals and their products. For non-prescription drugs, read the label or package carefully before using the ingredients.

Not many studies have been performed for use of Doxepin capsules and its solutions for management of depression and anxiety among the children below the age of 12. There are also no safety and efficacy data to support the use of this drug. The influences of age in the use of the Doxepin tablets for the treatment of insomnia in pediatrics population have also not been established.

Among the elderly, there are no studies that point to the specific elderly problems that minimize the usefulness of the use of Doxepin. This is beside the common unwanted effects of confusion or drowsiness or age-related liver, kidney and heart problems. Caution is needed and adjustment of the dose of Doxepin may be needed in some patients.

Moreover, there are no studies that point out the adverse effects of administration of Doxepin in pregnant women. In women that are breastfeeding, harmful effects and increase infant risk have been demonstrated and Doxepin may need to be used with caution. Instead, alternatives to Doxepin can be prescribed and mothers are advised to stop breastfeeding when using doxepin.

Drug interaction cases have been reported. However, in other cases, this drug may be administered with other drugs even with the drug interactions present. However, the doctor may want to change the dose first and other precautions observed as may be necessary.

Use of Doxepin with any of the medicine listed below is not recommended. Your medical doctor may change the medication or some of the medicines that you can take to treat the condition. They include:

However, using both medicines may be a good combination for your treatment. When both of them have been prescribed together, the dose may be altered and how often the medicine is administered also changed to avoid drug interactions. Other drugs that are contraindicated for use in combination with Doxepin include:

Other Interactions may occur with some medicines when used at or around times for eating food. It is prohibited that one must not use tobacco and alcohol with certain medicines which may also trigger interactions to occur. In the case of other medical problems besides the problems with insomnia, ensure that the doctor is aware of these conditions.

The most significant problem may include conditions associated with bipolar disorder (mood disorder characterized by mania and depression), breathing problems, Psychosis (mental illness) and sleep apnea (breathing stops during sleeping). These conditions are observed in severe cases of this condition. They may make this condition worse.

Patients with glaucoma or urinary retention must also be reported. Often, this drug is not recommended for use in patients with these conditions. In the case of kidney or liver problems, this drug should not be used. The side effects of the drugs may be increased with the slow removal of the medicine from the body.

3 Proper Usage

To use Prudoxin properly, you must follow all instructions given by your doctor. Prudoxin for topical application is only used externally. It must never be used orally or applied in any of the openings such as the eyes, inside of the vagina, and anus.

The medicine is supposed to be used as instructed and directed by a professional healthcare provider or your medical doctor. Never apply more of it or more often than the recommended dose by your doctor. Its average recommended dose is for less than 8 days.

In addition, only doxepin in the region that are recommended to avoid having side effects. Use only a very thin layer of doxepin cream on the affected regions of the skin and rub gently. Apply the topical doxepin in the regions for the full term of the treatment.

It is also recommended never to miss doses. Never cover the affected regions with a bandage, however, just wrap the region of the skin that is being treated. This process will allow the medicine to get to the blood stream and increase the chance of creating the side effects.

Different doses are for different patients. It is recommended that doctor’s instructions must always be followed. The average dose for the medicine is always administered. However, do not change the dose unless instructed by your doctor.

The amount of medicine that one takes relies on the strength of the medicine, number of doses, the time allowed between doses, the length of the duration over which they have to be taken and the medical problem for which the medicine is applied.

The topical dosage for the cream in case of itching eczema in adults is to apply a thin layer of doxepin on the affected area of the skin four times a day. In addition, space the doses or applications to three or four hours apart. The treatment can be made up to about 8 days. In children, the dosage of topical doxepin has to be determined by the medical doctor.

In the case of a missed dose, apply it as soon as possible. But when it is almost time for the subsequent dose, skip the dose and resume the normal schedule.

Store the medicine in a closed container at room temperature and away from the heat, moisture, and direct light. Store it away from freezing temperatures, away from children. Dispose of all outdated medicines that are not needed for use or expired.

4 Precautions to Take

In using Prudoxin, you must be careful and take some precautions as advised by your doctor. When the condition of your skin does not improve in about 8 days or even become worse, check with your local doctor.

It is also known that this medicine will add to the effect of alcoholic taken as beverages or alcohol-containing drinks such as elixirs, cough syrup, and even tonics). It also adds up to other depressants such as CNS depressants causing drowsiness.

Examples of CNS depressants are antihistamines or drugs for hay fever,allergies, cold, sedatives,tranquilizers, sleeping medicines,analgesics, narcotics, barbiturates, drugs for seizures, muscle relaxants, anesthetics and other dental anesthetics.

Always inform your doctor in advance when using this medicine. Topical doxepin may cause some people to become drowsy. Always understand how you behave to these drugs before you operate any machine, drive, or get engaged in anything that will require your alertness.

In the case of excessive drowsiness, ask your doctor if the dose can be reduced and reduce the frequency with which it can be taken or ask your doctor if you can stop using it completely. Also, check with your doctor in case it causes dryness of the mouth.

It is advisable to use a sugarless gum, candy or melt bits of ice in your mouth for temporary relief. But if your mouth continues to be dry for more than 2 weeks, and then check with your local dentist. Continued dryness may be a source of dental diseases such as tooth decay, hum disease or even fungal infection.

5 Potential Side Effects

As with many medications, there are several potential side effects associated with Prudoxin. Always check with your medical doctor when the side effects occur. Some of the side effects may occur and will not need any medical attention. The side effects may disappear during treatment when your body adjusts to the medicine.

Also, seek advice from your medical professional; they may help prevent or reduce some of the side effects clinically using another form of treatments. This is especially when the side effects become bothersome or a problem. In addition, always ask your doctor questions in case you have any on the effects. Some of the side effects that are not listed may as well occur in patients.
