Anemic from low iron?

My girlfriend is anemic and is in poor health. I'm sure she has deficiencies in most vitamins. She had a blood test and she was really low on Iron. Could you tell me what kind of Dr. should we seek out that specializes in vitamin deficiencies? She weighs 90lbs and is weak and tired all day. Her regular Dr has done anything about her condition. We need another Dr. that can help her. I'll want to know what over the counter vitamins and supplements I should get until we find a Dr.

She is anemic. She needs to go to an emergency room (ER) or urgent care (UC) facility for a complete workup. The anemia has multiple causes and one of them is bleeding among many others. Please, take her to ER or UC immediately. They will refer her to the appropriate specialist (Hematologist), but first they must find the origin of her anemia. Thank you
Look for a naturopathic doctor. They practice this exact kind of medicine you are intuitively looking for. An ND will help identify not only deficiencies, but underlying causes for these deficiencies (there are many), and have the highest level of education when it comes to supplementation. They typically have much more compassionate and respectful bedside manners as well.
You can seek a homeopathic practitioner. Read more here:

This is complex. How quickly did the iron levels drop? She needs to find a Naturopathic Physician and pay for private care.
Hello,

I’m so sorry to hear of your girlfriend’s situation. The two best types of doctors to help with the detailed description and needs you specified would be either a Naturopathic Doctor or a Functional Medicine Doctor. You can search for a naturopath in your area on this same site, www.findatopdoc.com, or you can search for a functional med doc here: www.ifm.org/find-a-practitioner/
Many functional medicine doctors accept insurance while naturopathic doctors are only allowed to accept insurance in certain states.
I wish you both well in your health and wellness journey.
The iron deficiency is not due to a vitamin deficiency or her diet but at age 70 the possibility of slow chronic blood loss from her G-I tract
First of all, iron deficiency most often comes from loss of blood somewhere and the most common system is the gastrointestinal tract. Therefore if she has not seen a gastroenterologist for a colonoscopy and possibly endoscopy recently, that is where she needs to start. They can also look for other deficiencies that may be a part of wasting syndromes like this.
Someone at her age with Iron deficiency anemia, we must rule out colon cancer. She will need to get a Colonoscopy with a Gastroenterologist. If the test is normal, she can see a Hematologist (Blood specialist), meantime she can eat food rich in Iron such: Lentils, spinach, black beans and take Centrum multivitamins for women 1 tab daily.
