Hematologist (Blood Specialist) Questions

Are tear drop cells normal under any circumstances?

Hi there,
I recently have been having a hard time connecting with a doctor and would like to know if it is ever normal to have tear drop shaped RBC? Could they be temporary as in, due to an infection? Or is it like once your body produces them, it will continue indefinitely?
thank you

Please refer to a publicly available article: G?tgemann, Ines, Heimpel, Hermann and Nebe, Carl Thomas.
