There are reasons why you have gum recession. One of the most common reasons for recession is periodontal disease. Periodontal disease is a bacterial infection causing erosion of the bone. Therefore a deep cleaning will remove the bacteria and help to reduce or stop the infection. If the infection is stopped then yes it will stop further recession. Other reasons for recession can include brushing too hard, genetically thin gum tissue, grinding or clenching etc.
