Yes, mesh used in hernia repairs can become infected. The risk is low, but it happens sometimes.
Not with acupuncture
Yes.
Infection is always possible but the risk is less than 1% in clean cases.
Unfortunately I cannot speak to that, as it is not in my field.
yes
The risk of infection is low. If you have never had an infection, that risk is probably <5%. Risk factors for getting infections include (but are not limited to) repeat surgery, previous infections, obesity, diabetes, and smoking.
I had a surgery for an abdominal hernia at the year of 2007, the doctor didn't say that mesh will be infected in the future, as today, I still not free anything wrong inside my abdominal. It may be not not get infected, it depends on what kind of material it made.
As I am an acupuncturist, your question is out of my purview. Having said that, the mesh will probably be made of non-organic material, so the mesh itself cannot get infected. You can, however, get infections around the mesh. Please talk with your doctor/surgeon about your concerns.
