Psychosis (delusions and/or hallucinations) are a sign of severe CNS disturbance, which at the present time require medications. Talking therapies are ineffective.
People can successfully manage psychosis using a combination of strategies and interventions, including early intervention (when possible), medications, cognitive behavioral therapy or other types of psychotherapy, and academic or vocational services that help people stay in school or work.
Psychosis is best treated with antipsychotic medications, but therapy can help you to better understand your symptoms and techniques to manage them.
Typically psychosis is treated with medication as well as therapy. You have a better chance of success in your treatment if you see a psychiatrist and a psychologist or therapist.
