Once plaques are formed in the arteries, they will stay there and this process cannot be reversed. However, by controlling the risk factors such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, and, most importantly, quitting smoking will certainly slow down the plaque buildup process.
Yes! The process of formation of atheromatous plaque can be impacted positively by control of blood cholesterol levels, control of hypertension and diabetes, healthy diet and control of obesity, moderate physical activity and absolute abstinence from smoking. Although, constitutional factors (genetics) impact significantly of the occurrence of atherosclerosis, environmental factors (in other words, what we do to ourselves) is as important in the progression of the disease.
Please consult your Cardiologist. Proper diet, Mediterranean diet , daily exercise, if you conditions such as Diabetes, Hypertension, High Cholesterol should be controlled.
Very difficult, some evidence, but unable to prove. Generally no.
