Ear, Nose and Throat Doctor (ENT) Questions Congestion

Could I (16F) have enlarged adenoids?

Hello. I am a 16-year-old female. I have had chronic congestion for over a year now. I'm not entirely sure when it started, but it was some time in Summer 2021. My congestion has fluctuated a lot. Sometimes, it's so intense, I can't breathe from my nose, and other times it feels mostly clear. Sometimes I have totally dry congestion, sometimes a little postnasal drip, and other times it's running. Sometimes it's all in one nostril, sometimes it's in both. But it's never been entirely clear since before that summer. I have taken over the counters for allergies, but they don't even improve things mildly. I have tried antibiotics before, but they didn't work very well either. It could have been due to being underdosed twice, quite severely the first time. I have taken pseudoephedrine, which did help, however I can't and shouldn't take Sudafed my whole life. I have been completely lost for months now, not knowing what's wrong with me, until today. My mother mentioned that I may need my adenoids removed, because they may have become enlarged. I've been looking online about this possibility. There are two things that stand out to me. For one, they can become enlarged due to an allergy attack. I had one that summer, where I sat too close to some cut grass and my eye sole up. For two, it seems to happen mostly in young children, which is why I'm asking. Could my adenoids have swollen up when I was newly 15, due to an allergy attack? I am kind of hoping this can be the solution to this, despite my fear of surgery, because I am so tired of being stuffy constantly.

You likely are describing inferior turbinate hypertrophy. try a nasal steroid spray 2 sprays twice daily for at least 4 weeks.
Its very unllikely that you have any adenoids left. Go visit an ENT and ask for an in clinic turbinate reduction.
