Covid and type 2 diabetes?

My husband has covid and has type 2 diabetes. He has been doing ok. Tonight he started having chills and a fever of 100.5. I gave him Tylenol and it came down to 99.7. His glucose reading has been higher than normal and his heart rate has been higher than normal. Is there anything he or I can do? We both got positive results Saturday.

Diabetes is a risk factor for more severe expression of Covid. At least for your husband I might recommend that he consult his doctor about starting on Paxlovid, an antiviral that has been shown to be quite effective in reducing severe illness with Covid. For otherwise healthy people you can also shorten the course of the infection but may not be indicated.
Dear patient,

Please call your doctor. He may want to change meds to account for new situation.
