Internist Questions Sciatica

Do i have mystery illness

Since my birthday January 28th I've had many new diagnosis and i am wondering if they could all be related and maybe just be symptoms of one illness. Having a life of pretty good health before this its strange to have all these probs all the sudden. My blood work said I'm positive for herpes type 1 and type 2 and that my cholesterol is a lil high despite not eating any food with cholesterol in it since may 2017. I've never had an outbreak or anything which is why it was a surprise. One day i woke up and i had so much pain in the back of my thighs it was hard to move around and i went to an urgent care place where they diagnosed me with sciatica. Then a couple of days later a sharp intense pain came from my pelvis and it woke me in the middle of the night. I think it was around my uterus location or so. My primary thinks it might be an ovarian cyst and I'm due for a ultrasound march 2nd but the strange thing is I've been on hormonal birth control pills for 15 years so why would i have a cyst? Then the other day i was chewing and i heard a pop in my jaw and now it is very painful to chew and yawn. The pain is by the joint on the right side of my face near my cheekbone. Do any of these symptoms sound like they could have one underlying cause or am i just having bad luck? Thanks

It does sound like you are having a streak of bad luck. The pains are likely nothing serious. You probably should be getting more exercise. The ultrasound will clarify whether you have a cyst. Birth control pills do not protect against such, only reduce the risk. I assume the herpes type 1 and 2 are evidence of previous infection. The issue with your jaw is from your tempero-mandibular joint, which has been dislocated. You can train if back into place by applying as much pressure as you can with your preferred hand to your lower jaw and opening and closing your mouth. If you do this 20-30 times twice per day the problem should resolve within a couple of weeks.
Sounds like multiple issues. Make sure your doctor knows all your symptoms

No, I do not think there is one underlying cause, but rather several things causing these individual symptoms that point to likely minor, not life-threating health concerns. That being said, having regular yearly physicals and follow-ups with your physician are always recommended. The herpes test results just mean you were exposed at some point in your life and you may never have an outbreak of the disease. The cholesterol test has several components to it, LDL, HDl and trigl, that mean much more than a total chop level. Your body makes cholesterol on its own and there is also a hereditary component. The pain in your jaw is likely an irritated TMJ (temporal mandibular joint). This sometimes happens if you grind or clench your teeth or if your bite is off. The pelvic pain needs more evaluation, but cysts can develop despite oral contraceptives.
