“Does my daughter have plagiocephaly?”
My 7 month old daughter recently had an appointment at Cranial Technologies based on a questionable referral. I am active duty military so our pediatrician felt a little rushed to get one. They claim she needs the Doc Band helmet which is incredibly expensive and not covered by insurance. Just want a second opinion if my daughter is severe and needs the helmet or if these problems will not persist or lead to permanent issues. They claim her eyes and ears are already showing signs of being off-center but I do not see it. Just want to ensure I'm not just being sold a product.

Hello,
This is in response to the 7-month-old with plagiocephaly. First, your adorable daughter would need to be evaluated in person clinically in order for me to make any assessment. Also, we would recommend the helmet at 4-5 months of age if it was deemed necessary. Usually mild plagiocephaly does not affect mental or physical development.
