Rheumatologist (Pediatric) Questions Juvenile Arthritis

How can I prevent juvenile arthritis in my daughter?

I had arthritis since I was a kid, and the doctor told me that I could have gotten it from my family history. Is it possible for my daughter to develop it as well? Is there anything that I can do to prevent it?

Autoimmune conditions run in the family. Your daughter is at increased chance of developing a type of an autoimmune disease such as thyroid disease or celiac disease. There isn't anything that can be done to prevent this. Just monitor and try to live everyday to the fullest!
There are no known prevention strategies specific for juvenile arthritis. Just live a healthy lifestyle. Juvenile arthritis is not a hereditary disease. Positive family history does not necessarily imply a genetic component since family members share many more things other than genes including, but not limited to, diet, environmental exposures, behavioral patterns, etc.
