How can fibromyalgia be managed?

My wife has been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, after experiencing odd episodes of pain for as long as we can remember. The doctor has started her treatment with medication. What are the other ways in which the condition can be managed? I admit I don't know much about fibro but I also understand that many doctors don't either.

The best treatment for fibromyalgia other than medications is exercise. Most patients refuse to exercise, but if they do it it works well. Start with walking, low distance, slow speed and gradually increase. If she can do some light weight lifting that would be beneficial.
Fibromyalgia is a complex issue and every patient will need treatment tailored specifically for their needs. It is common for patients with fibromyalgia to develop depression and have trouble sleeping so, these symptoms are something that you will want to be aware of and discuss with your doctor if it occurs. I would also recommend maintaining a healthy diet and physical fitness.
