Geriatrician Questions Oxygen Therapy

How can we manage my father in law's oxygen requirements?

My father in law suffered from pneumonia due to which he has severe trouble breathing. He has been on home oxygen supply for the last week. How long will he require external oxygen support?

As long as he is symptomatic and has resting oxygen saturation less than 88%
Depending on what was the extent of the infection in the lungs will factor in how long he might need oxygen support. Check with your doctor. If his resting oxygen level is above 88%, then the doctor should recommend taking him off oxygen (this is assuming your father has enough lung power to climb stairs, etc.).
