How do I know if I'm brushing my teeth too hard?

I am a 31 year old female. I wonder how can I know if I'm brushing my teeth too hard?

Receding gums and "c" type grooves in teeth.
You should always use a very soft bristled tooth brush. A lite touch will get most of the daily build up off your teeth. You should see your hygienist regularly to remove any build up or treat periodontal disease. If you notice recession along your gums, that is the most common sign of brushing too hard.
There are couple signs:
Gum receeding, sensitive on ice or cold drink, no more sharp tooth anatomy, and using hard tooth brush and brush long time.
