The procedure itself typically takes about 30-45 min. Often patients receive moderate to deep sedation for comfort. There is a risk of bacterial sepsis after prostate biopsy, so patients are also typically started on antibiotics the day before the procedure along with iv antibiotics during the procedure, and continued antibiotics afterwards as well.
