Colon resection surgery is performed under general anesthesia and may be performed as an open procedure with an abdominal incision or sometimes lapraroscopically using a telescopic camera and several smaller incisions. Post-operative pain can be managed with a combination of oral analgesics often including opioids and with a variety of regional techniques such as epidural, spinal or regional blocks. Each patient has individual pain responses but effective pain relief can be managed. Post operative pain can be expected to resolve with wound healing.
With anesthesia and post operative pain meds, very tolerable.
