As any surgery, it has a level of pain. But the more severe level of pain usually is only the first few days and until after you have your first bowel movement. It usually doesn’t last very long at a high level. Of course your pain tolerance also is a factor. But if you need it, you should be glad you have it.
Pain is perceived differently from person to person, so it is difficult to give you a specific answer. However, in general, the anal area has a lot of nerve endings, so if you are having surgery involving the anus, that will be tender. If the surgery is higher and involving more of the colon itself, your level of pain will depend on the approach. Less invasive procedures involving the Davinci Robot are less painful in general when compared to an open surgery. It is best to ask your doctor for more specifics.
