Urologist Questions Urinary Tract Infections

If I have a UTI can I pass it on to my husband?

I am suffering from a urinary tract infection and am on medication. I had sex with my husband yesterday. Does this also put him at a risk of a UTI?

No way. It's in your bladder and your husband cannot get into that area obviously.
Very good question, a UTI versus an STD. The former being a typical e.coli-type bug versus an STG like chlamydia. The STD type bacteria is always possible including a viral STD like Herpes. A UTI bacteria not very likely because women have ac1.5 inch urethra and men 7-9 or more so anatomy protects men. But if a man has an e.coli prostatic is infection, he could pass it on to his female partner.

No, you will not transmit a normal UTI through intercourse.

The chance of him catching your UTI would be very remote. However, I would generally recommend you avoid sexual activity until your own UTI has settled.
No, it's not a sexually transmitted disease. He will be fine.
