Generally the prostate gland will enlarge in men as they age. The condition can be benign and is called BPH or benign prostatic hyperplasia. It may cause more frequent urination, slower emptying or incomplete emptying. Your doctor should discuss objective measurements such as a PSA level with you. With normal PSA levels, BPH is likely and is not concerning. With higher levels and an enlarged prostate, speciality evaluation may be encouraged to discuss risks and benefits of prostate biopsy to rule out malignancy.
Yes. It could be a cancer, but even if it's not, it can cause problems with sleep and urination.
