Is it worth going to the ER for kidney stones?

I have bad kidney stone pain. I want to go to ER. Is it worth going to the ER for kidney stones?

Yes for IV hydration and pain control. The ER will do blood tests, and urine tests to make sure you don't have a urinary tract infection, if so they will give you antibiotics, they will also do a kidney ultrasound to make sure that the stone is not lodged, if it is too large they will consult a urologist to come see you in the ER.
If the pain is severe, going to the ER would be a good idea to get control of the pain. Also, an U/S or CT scan can be done to make sure there is no obstruction of the urinary tract. The latter is a dangerous condition that can lead to infection of loss of the kidney function.
If your pain is bad enough, you should go to the Emergency department. The physicians can treat your pain, as well as the need for fluids to help your kidneys.
