Likelihood of Fatal Familial Insomnia

My grandfather at the age of 67 passed away and was confirmed to have passed from CJD, creutes Jacob's disease. My concern is, is there any possibility of 1. That if it passed to me it could mutate into FFI and not CJD, or 2. If my mother didn't inherit the dominate gene, if there was a chance I could still inherit it. Thank you.

I have not personally seen it mutate to be anything other than a familial form of CJD (which is still very rare). Also, it would be unlikely for you to be affected if your mother did not inherit the gene. This should all be confirmed with a genetic specialist however if you are concerned further.
