Oncologist Questions Chemotherapy

My father is suffering from excessive sleepiness and loss of appetite due to his chemotherapy. Is it normal?

My father is 74 years old and is suffering from excessive sleepiness and is unable to eat well. Even when he eats little, he begins to feel nausea. Is it normal to patients undergoing chemotherapy or is the treatment not suiting him? Please advice.

These symptoms may be due to the anti nausea drugs that are given to reduce chemo induced side effects. He needs to discuss these symptoms with his doctor who may be able to try alternative medications particularly if the symptoms are distressing to the patient.
This happens with chemo. Check with his oncologist for advice.
These side effects can be common 20-30%. Nevertheless they need to be investigated. Well worth the effort. There are remedies:
1- Support medications for some half the patients
2- Others can be helped with dose modification or a change in one of the drugs
3- Also, cancer causes metabolic abnormalities poisoning, can sometimes be remedied
