My mother is heavily diabetic. Her kidney function is now affected due to the disease. Her creatinine levels are at 5.17 in the last reading. Due to this she is having water retention all through her body. The doctor has given Dytor 100 mg for draining out the water from the body which makes her extremely drowsy. Will this medication have to be taken permanently?

Your mother's kidney is going to failure because of the medication! So, you have to take her to a holistic medicine doctor near you to find another way for her.
Stop OTC meds
She may need dialysis soon. Till that is initiated, please continue the Torsemide/Dytor.
Yes, the medicine will have to be taken as long as she has swelling or unless dialysis has been started.

If her creatinine is that high, the fluid pill won’t work to remove fluid and she likely needs hemo-dialysis to remove the body swelling.

She will need some type of diuretics permanently, but creat 5.1 is pretty high. Need to see a nephrologist if not already seen.
